Paragon Testing Enterprises, a subsidiary of The University of British Columbia, is inviting individuals to take the CAEL CE Pretest. It’s a free opportunity to experience questions on the new computerized version of the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, called CAEL CE (Computer Edition).

For a limited time, complete the pretest and receive a $50 discount code which can be used during your registration of a future official CAEL TestCELPIP Test, or LPI Test!* See details below.

It is preferred, although not required, to meet at least two of the following:

  • A non-native English speaker

  • Enrolled in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program
  • Enrolled in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program

Why should you take the CAEL CE Pretest?

  • Practice taking academic English test questions in a real test environment.
  • Gain experience and confidence taking a computer delivered test.
  • Receive detailed Listening and Reading scores that are broken down into four categories: overall, understanding general meaning, understanding specific details and making inferences. Scores are reported as percentages making it easier for test takers to know how many questions they answered correctly in each category and what category they may need to focus on.

Note: Scores are not given for any Speaking and Writing questions answered during the test.

*Once you take the CAEL CE Pretest, you will be given a $50 discount code, which can only be used during the online registration process for a future Paragon test (CAEL, CELPIP, or LPI). Paragon Testing Enterprises may withhold the discount at its discretion and refunds cannot be given on existing registrations. Discount is valid for three months from the Pretest date.

What is expected of the participants?

The pretest will be approximately 2 hours long and will include the following:

  • Computer delivery: participants will complete the pretest over the computer.
  • Practice four skills: the pretest will assess skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English in an academic context.

Your personal information, test scores, and feedback will be kept confidential. Your personal information will not be sold to other organisations for any reason.

  • "CAEL CE (Computer Edition) is self explanatory, and is very user friendly. In the writing component, it helps that there is a word count feature. There is also no stress about handwriting being awkward or having to scribble over spelling mistakes. CAEL CE is the way to go forward because it's how the current education system works and the way communication is handled in the professional world. CAEL CE hits right at the mark!"
