Since Paragon Testing Enterprises acquired CAEL (Paper Edition) in June 2015 from Carleton University, we have been reviewing all aspects of the test. In September 2017, we launched CAEL CE (Computer Edition) so that CAEL can be securely administered both in Canada and internationally to large numbers of test takers.
Paragon has substantially modernized CAEL (Paper Edition) with CAEL CE. We have built a strong testing framework and have the knowledge and experience to maintain and strengthen this test into the future. With that said, we have decided to focus our efforts on developing CAEL CE and will retire the administration CAEL (Paper Edition) at all our existing test centres on August 31, 2018.
CAEL (Paper Edition) will still be available to the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs at Canadian universities and colleges. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Benefits of CAEL CE (Computer Edition)
- Accepted by universities and colleges across Canada
Over 180 universities and colleges across Canada accept the results of CAEL CE for admission to their academic programs.
- Fully computer-delivered
All components (Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing) of CAEL CE are fully administered by computer. All test components are completed in one sitting, and there are no additional Speaking interviews administered by human examiners.
- Fast results
Results are available online within 8 business days after the scheduled test date. For no additional cost, CAEL CE scores can be sent to five institutions, with additional score reports available for order after the scheduled test date.
- Uses Canadian accents
To best reflect the variety of English accents that you will encounter while studying in Canada, CAEL CE incorporates Canadian accents in the Listening component of the test. All standard varieties of English are accepted in the written and spoken responses of CAEL CE.
- Represents language use in an academic context
The test includes activities that you will engage in during your Canadian post-secondary studies. The topics and tasks are taken from first-year university and college courses.
- Developed by experts in Canada
CAEL CE was developed by a team of assessment professionals at Paragon Testing Enterprises, composed of individuals with backgrounds in applied linguistics, education, statistics, and psychometrics. CAEL CE utilizes industry-leading technology to deliver a test that meets the highest-quality standards in the language assessing field.
